PERACLEAN® 15 for common surfaces disinfection
In light of coronavirus, Evonik produces a solution to help prevent the spread of disease on common surfaces that people may encounter, such as doorknobs and handrails.
The novel Coronavirus can survive up to several days on hard surfaces such as glass, metal, or plastic. This may pose a threat to humans, particularly when the hard surface is not properly disinfected.
Evonik, as part of its chemical portfolio, has developed an environmentally safe way of disinfecting surfaces where coronavirus is present. Tests were conducted at a sanctioned EPA laboratory where PERACLEAN® 15 (EPA #54289-4), a stabilized solution containing 15% peracetic acid and 22% hydrogen peroxide, was used to disinfect Human Coronavirus Strain 229E. Unlike many other disinfectants in the marketplace such as quaternary ammonium compounds and chlorine, PERACLEAN® 15 is a very fast acting biocide that quickly decomposes into acetic acid, water, and oxygen. It’s also effective against several other viruses such as Herpes simplex virus, Norovirus, Rhinovirus.
“The main reason of PERACLEAN’s efficiency is that its composed of two chemicals that have a powerful effect in disinfection and sterilization: Hydrogen Peroxide and Acetic Acid. PERACLEAN 15 has demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to SARS-COV-2 on hard non-porous surfac-es. Therefore, it can be used against SARS-COV-2 when used in accordance with the directions for use.” said Amro Raslan, Business Manager for Evonik Active Oxygens in Egypt, Levant and GCC.
